my word for the year

Happy 2022! Another year is before us, a blank slate full of possibility and hope. I’ve never been a fan of new year resolutions maybe because I could never keep one, but also because in the last few years intention has felt deeply potent.

In choosing a word or, more realistically, in it choosing me, it becomes this electrified intention for the year ahead. Last year my word was lead and that intention, in fact, did lead me to step more fully into being a leader, for myself and those I serve. It moved me to drop the armor, come out of hiding and truly be seen. It wasn’t always easy or comfortable, but I did it.

This year as I sat, pondered and allowed for this intention to rise to the surface the word that came was, wait for it…FOLLOW. Interesting…and I immediately wanted to sit for longer and come up with a better, more grandiose word and intention. Nope, not going to work, the word and intention has been chosen and you cannot make a return. Seriously?

After paving a path forward and leading you’re telling me to follow??!! Wasn’t the whole point of leading not to follow? I didn’t get it, but as I sat longer and journaled this is what arose within me:

“Follow so that you can lead. Follow your heart, your dreams, your gut, our guidance and allow courage to well up from the depths of your heart. Follow the path that will unfold before you…Go forth and lead by following that which was planted in your heart.”

Mic drop! Now, I can get behind that. So, this is my intention for 2022-to follow my heart. Wrapped up in this intention is trust, allowing, and patience. When you follow, you have to wait for guidance, for the right timing, allow life to lead and trust that where you are being led is safe and sustainable. Wait, then act. For someone impatient this won’t be easy, but growth never is. As I’ve come to learn, each intention is meant to stretch and break me open in new ways.

I sense that this year will also be a big one for COMMUNITY, so I thank you all for being a part of mine and I look forward to deepening it as I am guided.

I have no idea where this year will take me, but I am excited to venture forward. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!

So, what is your word/intention for this new year? I'd love to know.
