The art of vision boards

The energy of spring is in the air, it feels like standing on the starting line waiting for the shot to ring so that you can sprint forward. Spring is the appropriate energetic and astrological new year, the season of rebirth and renewal. The long days of winter are slowing coming to a close while we get hints of new beginnings.

A few weeks ago I hosted a sister circle where we worked on creating on vision boards for this year-appropriate with the energy beginning to rise. Our traditional new year in January is energetically inappropriate to work on new goals and take action (at least I think so). We’re in the dead of winter and if we take our cues from Mother Nature it is a time of inner descent and rest, not a time to take action. Now spring…is just the right time for action and focus on our goals.

So cue the vision boards. Vision boards are a physical representation of your goals, desires, dreams and a compass that helps you keep moving in that direction. For all of my Law of Attraction followers, this is a practice helps activate that law. But if you’re doing vision boards simply to try and manifest “things,” you’re doing it all wrong. I think it’s far more important to connect with how something makes you feel and understand your why vs. slapping a brand new car on the board.

These boards work because they activate our brain’s reticular activating system (RAS), which helps the brain determine what you believe is important, therefore you will look for it in the outside world. This part of the brain in active when all of a sudden you’re pregnant and you begin to see pregnant women everywhere. Were they not there before?? No, your brain simply didn’t deem that important so it was out of your focus. Where your attention goes, energy flows. It’s that simple.

Vision boards are fun and creative. And I must also caution you, they do work! Like the time I did a chakra vision board and placed a butterfly at my heart chakra…transformation is never easy, but the Universe delivered.

How to make your own vision board:

  1. Get still and meditate. What are your goals? What actions can you take towards achieving them? What is is that your soul guiding you toward this year? How do you want to feel? What are the deepest intentions of your heart?

  2. Journal out your goals. You can choose to work on any part of your life, career, finances, relationships, or all of it.

  3. Now the fun part. Grab any size poster board, scissors and some glue. Cut out images or words from magazines that elicit how you want to feel, that represent your dreams, goals or desires.

  4. Make sure to display the board somewhere you will see it everyday-this is the part that gets your brain involved. This keeps your goals top of mind and helps keep you motivated to move toward them.

  5. Release attachment. Repeat after me, “this or something better.” You cannot control how the Universe will deliver what you say you want. And remember that you are a co-creator so allow yourself to be surprised.

  6. Keep all of your yearly vision boards so that you can look back and see what came to fruition for you and in what ways the Universe delivered it.

Now have fun making your vision boards! May we all move toward the deepest desires of our hearts and souls as we approach our lives from an intentional space of co-creation and purpose.
